Game recap: North Wilkes High School Football Team defeats West Wilkes

HAYS, N.C. - A big 20-point second quarter helped carry the Vikings to a 39-7 victory over West Wilkes (Millers Creek, N.C.) on Saturday.

North Wilkes scored on a Josh Bare touchdown run, a touchdown pass by LJ Hendren to Josh Martin and a touchdown run by Justin Shepherd in the quarter.

After taking the lead on a touchdown pass by Hendren to Martin in the second quarter, NW was up 20-7 at the half.

The Hays school grew its lead to 25 points entering the fourth quarter. The Vikings scored two times in the third, including once on a two-point conversion.

West Wilkes' lone touchdown came on an 11-yard run in the first quarter.



North Wilkes entered the contest giving up 24.7 points per game this year.

The victory was a step in the right direction for NW, which was coming off a 34-20 defeat at the hands of Ashe County in its previous game.

North Wilkes (8-2) will play a 2A/1A Conference 6 game against Wilkes Central next week, while West Wilkes (2-8) will take on East Wilkes also in a 2A/1A Conference 6 game.
