Softball Recap: Evansville Mater Dei Drops Highest Score of Season Against Evansville Bosse

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Evansville Mater Dei). They blew past the Evansville Bosse Bulldogs 23-0 on Tuesday. With that win, the Wildcats brought their scoring average up to 6.9 runs per game.

Chelsea Merkley was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Evansville Mater Dei got a massive performance out of Ingrid Damm, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those two hits gave Damm a new career-high. Addison Collins was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.

Evansville Mater Dei always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .628. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Evansville Bosse only posted an OBP of .111.

Evansville Mater Dei is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Evansville Bosse, they dropped their record down to 1-11 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Evansville Mater Dei will take on Boonville at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The last three games the Pioneers have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Evansville Bosse, they will challenge Evansville Reitz at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Panthers will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Bulldogs surely won't give up without a fight.
