Recap: Gillespie Miners vs. Carlinville Cavaliers
The Gillespie Miners were the 67-46 winner over the Carlinville Cavaliers when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. Gillespie fell 43-31 to Carlinville on Thursday. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Gillespie has scored all season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Carlinville to victory, but perhaps none more so than Triston Thompson, who scored 16 points. That's the first time this season that Thompson scored 15 or more points. Sawyer Smith was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with five rebounds.
Gillespie has been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season. As for Carlinville, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 4-6.
Gillespie will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Carlinville at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Carlinville focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Thursday. They will finish 2023 at home by hosting Gillespie at 7:30 p.m. Gillespie is hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses.
