Westlake and West Jordan are an even 4-4 against one another since March of 2015, but likely not for long. Westlake is taking a road trip to face off against West Jordan at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Westlake's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so West Jordan's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Westlake's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Wednesday's struggle, when Herriman hitters got past them. Westlake fell just short of Herriman by a score of 10-9 last Wednesday.
Madison Buckley and Ryan Pead did some serious damage despite the final result: Buckley scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3, while Pead went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Buckley also hit a triple, marking her first of the season. Claire DuBois was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
They weren't the only ones working in the hit department: Westlake kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, West Jordan beat Cyprus 8-4 on Friday. The Jaguars haven't had any issues with the Pirates recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Rita Tavita was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ashlynn Carignan, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Lafiana Fifita, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs.
West Jordan pushed their record up to 5-1 with the victory, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Westlake, the loss was their first on the road , dropping their record down to 5-2.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Westlake hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .411. However, it's not like West Jordan struggles in that department as they've averaged .363. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Westlake might still be hurting after the 22-12 defeat they got from West Jordan in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can Westlake avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
