Hanover won the Class 4A state championship in Virginia and that was enough to give it the top spot in the MaxPreps final medium schools national baseball rankings.

The Hawks edged Oxford, last year's medium schools mythical champion, which came in No. 2 after winning the Class 5A state championship in Mississippi. Washington Class 2A champion Selah came in at No. 3 while a pair of Florida state champions, 5A winner Bolles (Jacksonville) and 6A champ Archbishop McCarthy (Fort Lauderdale), rounded out the top five.

Hanover lost only to River Bluff (Lexington, S.C.) in a South Carolina tournament. The Hawks won 13 of their 23 wins by shutout and had six other games where they gave up just one run. They defeated Liberty Christian (Lynchburg, Va.), 13-12 in the state final.

The medium schools rankings are based on the MaxPreps National Baseball Computer Rankings presented by the Army National Guard. Medium-sized schools are those that play in state enrollment divisions that generally have between 1,000 and 2,000 students.
