Baseball Game Preview: Midland Park Panthers vs. Emerson Cavaliers

The Midland Park Panthers will venture away from home to square off against the Emerson Cavaliers at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. Midland Park's pitching crew has only allowed 1.2 runs per game this season, so Emerson's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

On Saturday, Midland Park didn't have quite enough to beat Hanover Park and fell 3-2. The Panthers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Anthony Carrea spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up eight Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Midland Park saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ryan Fleming, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

Emerson had taken River Dell down for three straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Saturday. The Cavaliers took a 7-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Golden Hawks. That's two games in a row now that the Cavaliers have lost by exactly four runs.

Emerson has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-10 record this season. As for Midland Park, their loss dropped their record down to 6-2.
