Baseball Recap: Indian River Takes a Loss

Indian River was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They fell 6-3 to the Denbigh Patriots.

Evan Sheppard was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Kalvin Murphy made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases and one run. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaydon Crawford, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Indian River's defeat dropped their record down to 5-13. As for Denbigh, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-7 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Indian River will square off against King's Fork at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Denbigh, they will venture away from home to take on Warhill at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Patriots' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lions have averaged an impressive 6.1 runs per game this season.
