Softball Game Preview: Roane County Yellowjackets vs. Sweetwater Wildcats

The Roane County Yellowjackets will square off against the Sweetwater Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Roane County is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.

While Roane County's victory against Sweetwater wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Yellowjackets beat the Wildcats on Tuesday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 2-1.

For Sweetwater's part, Sadie Scott spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on six hits and racked up 12 Ks. Scott has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Sweetwater saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lillian Woodruff, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.

Roane County pushed their record up to 11-0 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.6 runs on average over those games. As for Sweetwater, their win bumped their record up to 15-2.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Roane County has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 13.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Sweetwater struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
