Softball Recap: University's Win on Wednesday Extends Winning Streak to Eight

University put another one in the bag on Wednesday to keep their perfect season alive. They never let the Preston Knights get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory. That looming 15-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Hawks yet this season.

Sophia Lehosit made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, University got a big performance out of Lexi Elza, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Olivia Masoner was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles and two RBI.

University was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .577. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.

University's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-0. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Preston, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. University will host Morgantown at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Preston, they will square off against Grafton at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Knights' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bearcats have averaged an impressive 8.1 runs per game this season.
