Basketball Recap: Raylee Jones Key Part of a Team Effort in Volunteers Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Jackson Academy, Starkville Academy was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They strolled past the Bayou Academy Colts with points to spare, taking the game 42-26. This was a revenge game for the Volunteers: when they faced off against the Colts on January 3rd, they had to take a 40-33 loss.

Starkville Academy got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Raylee Jones out in front who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds. Jones has been hot, having posted ten or more boards the last seven times she's played. Kate Couvillion was another key player, putting up 14 points.

Starkville Academy's win bumped their record up to 14-8. As for Bayou Academy, they have also been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Starkville Academy will venture away from home to face off against Rossville Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Bayou Academy, it'll be an old-fashioned rodeo when the Bayou Academy Colts duke it out with the Pillow Academy Mustangs at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
