Basketball Recap: Gwendolyn Carricart Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat River Valley

Odyssey Institute lost to River Valley on January 9th, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Saturday. The Odyssey Institute Minotaur walked away with a 31-22 victory over the River Valley Dust Devils. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Minotaur as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Odyssey Institute to victory, but perhaps none more so than Gwendolyn Carricart, who posted eight points and 14 boards. The dominant performance also gave Carricart a new career-high in assists (three). Shelby Hunt was another key player, putting up four points along with seven rebounds and three blocks.

Odyssey Institute smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive rebound total in three consecutive games.

When it comes to explaining why River Valley lost, don't look at Avery Waldrip. Despite the final result, she had 14 points.

Odyssey Institute's victory bumped their record up to 4-11. As for River Valley, their defeat was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-12.

Odyssey Institute has already played their next matchup, a 48-17 loss against Highland Prep on the 27th. River Valley has also already played their next contest (against Tonopah Valley), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
