Softball Recap: Fremont Pathfinders vs. Port of Los Angeles Polar Bears
Fremont extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 5-8 in the process. They came up short against the Port of Los Angeles Polar Bears, falling 14-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Polar Bears this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-0 back in April.
As for Port of Los Angeles, the win was the 12th in a row for them, bringing their record up to 15-4. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games.
For Port of Los Angeles' part, Jimena Vargas made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and not a single walk). Vargas has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Briana Aleman was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Abigail Bazan, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
