Connersville is 9-1 against East Central since February of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Connersville Spartans will look to defend their home court against the East Central Trojans at 7:30 p.m. The timing isn't great for Connersville: they have been struggling with four straight losses at home, while East Central has snatched up four consecutive wins on the road.
Last Thursday, Connersville was beaten by Columbus North 69-39. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 207th, while the Bull Dogs are ranked 31st).
Despite the loss, Connersville had strong showings from Jadan Peterson, who went 6 for 11 to rack up 16 points and three steals, and Maddox Rees, who posted eight points. That was a full 41% of Connersville's points, marking the third time in a row he's had more than a third of the team's points.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 56 points the game before, East Central was a bit more limited in their contest on Saturday. They lost 53-28 to Columbus North. The matchup marked the Trojans' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
Connersville will have to keep a close watch on Peyton Hofer and Liam Rogers, a pair of players who had a big impact on East Central's prior game. Hofer scored nine points, while Rogers put up 11 points. Elijah Sehlhorst was another key player, putting up three points.
East Central's defeat dropped their record down to 6-10. As for Connersville, their loss dropped their record down to 7-11.
Thursday's contest is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Connersville has been dynamite from deep this season, having made 35.5% of their threes per game. However, it's not like East Central struggles in that department as they've made 36.7% of their three-pointers this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Connersville came up short against East Central when the teams last played back in February of 2024, falling 48-35.
