Recap: Calumet Christian Patriots vs. Elkhart Christian Academy Eagles
The Calumet Christian Patriots waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with two straight wins but they left with three. They snuck past Elkhart Christian Academy with a 37-33 victory. For Calumet Christian, this counts as revenge for the 43-33 defeat Elkhart Christian Academy walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January of 2023.
Calumet Christian got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Makenna Landkrohn out in front who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Landkrohn is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last eight games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Laila Ogden, who scored nine points along with three steals.
Elkhart Christian Academy lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Sydni Haviland, who scored seven points along with nine rebounds and four steals. Haviland continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Ryleigh Viront was another key contributor, scoring six points along with 12 rebounds and two steals.
Even though they lost, Elkhart Christian Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 24 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Calumet Christian only pulled down seven offensive rebounds.
Calumet Christian has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-9 record this season. As for Elkhart Christian Academy, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-11.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Calumet Christian will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on West Central at 6:15 p.m. on Monday. As for Elkhart Christian Academy, they will be playing at home against Hamilton at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
