Basketball Recap: Struthers Comes Up Short

Struthers had lost 12 straight at home dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 1-4 to make it 13. They were beaten by the Hubbard Eagles 63-35. The Wildcats lost against the Eagles in their previous head to head back in January, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 71-66 score last time.

As for Hubbard, their win ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-1. That 28 point margin sets a new team best for them this season.

Hubbard had a senior duo take command as Braydon Songer dropped a double-double with 20 points and 12 boards and Jakob Hayes dropped a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Songer's big performance that evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. Dylan Bucher was another key player, putting up eight points and three steals.

Struthers and John F. Kennedy Catholic will compete for holiday cheer at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Hubbard, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Hickory at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
