Football Recap: Chaparral Piles Up the Points Against Roosevelt + How To Watch

Chaparral won the last time they faced Roosevelt and things went their way on Thursday too. The Pumas took their contest with ease, bagging a 61-29 victory over the Mustangs. Given the Pumas' advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 20th, while the Mustangs are ranked 228th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Chaparral's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Dane Weber, who threw for 288 yards and three touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes, and also rushed for 72 yards and one score. Weber has been hot recently, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last four times he's played. Trevor Schneider was another key back, gaining 112 total yards.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Chaparral was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 213 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Roosevelt only rushed for 110.

Chaparral didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Eli Woodard and Michael ( Kiko ) Farinas.

Despite the loss, Roosevelt still got an impressive performance from Matthew Ochoa, who threw for 234 yards and a pair of TDs, and also rushed for 39 yards. 88 of Ochoa's passing yards were hauled in by Jorge Islas.

The win made it two in a row for Chaparral and bumps their season record up to 5-4. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.5 points over those games. As for Roosevelt, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-6.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Chaparral will square off against rival Centennial at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 1,015 yards in their previous games. Meanwhile, Roosevelt is set to challenge their familiar foe Murrieta Valley at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
