Recap: Valley Vikings vs. Hope Christian Huskies
The Valley Vikings lost a heartbreaker to the Hope Christian Huskies when they met back in January of 2023, and they left with a heavy heart again on Tuesday. Valley was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 49-48 to the Huskies. Valley has struggled against the Huskies recently, as their game on Tuesday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, Valley had strong showings from Julian Chavez, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds, and Rosendo Roybal, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Luciano Mondragon, who scored seven points.
Valley struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Valley's loss ended a seven-game streak of away wins and brought them to 15-5. As for Hope Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Valley will take on the Knights at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Del Norte will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps New Mexico Rankings (they are ranked 72nd, while the Vikings are ranked tenth). As for Hope Christian, they will be playing at home against the Elks/Elkettes at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
