A big part of Western's victory came down to the chemistry between Chance Thomas and his top target Jj Amezcua. Thomas threw for 331 yards and five touchdowns while completing 72% of his passes while Amezcua picked up 206 receiving yards and four touchdowns. Amezcua's longest reception was for an incredible 74 yards. Jacob Taylor helped Thomas out on the ground, rushing for 52 yards and a touchdown.

Meanwhile, it was close, but last Friday Capistrano Valley sidestepped Foothill for a 38-35 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cougars.

Capistrano Valley's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Tommy Acosta led the charge by throwing for 299 yards and three touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes, and also rushing for 52 yards. 114 of those passing yards were hauled in by Talon Spencer.

Western's victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-2. As for Capistrano Valley, their win bumped their record up to 4-1.
