Baseball Game Preview: Otay Ranch Mustangs vs. Sweetwater Red Devils

The Otay Ranch Mustangs are taking a road trip to challenge the Sweetwater Red Devils at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Otay Ranch let Olympian stack four runs on them in the second inning on Wednesday but luckily Otay Ranch prevailed anyway. The Mustangs came out on top against the Eagles by a score of 8-5. The victory was some much needed relief for the Mustangs as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Otay Ranch got a great performance from Orlando Sivilla as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over six innings pitched. Sivilla has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jake Medina, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, three doubles, and one RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Sweetwater and Olympian meet (two straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Friday. The Red Devils walked away with a 4-1 win over the Eagles.

Adam Gomez was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. Sweetwater is undefeated when Gomez posts two or more runs, but 8-13 otherwise. Del Luarca was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Otay Ranch's record now sits at 17-8. As for Sweetwater, their record is now 11-13.

Otay Ranch was able to grind out a solid victory over Sweetwater in their previous meeting back in April, winning 5-0. Do the Mustangs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Red Devils turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
