Preview: New Waverly Bulldogs vs. Tarkington Longhorns
New Waverly is 8-1 against Tarkington since December of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The New Waverly Bulldogs will be playing at home against the Tarkington Longhorns at 7:30 p.m. New Waverly is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
New Waverly pushed their score all the way to 60 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They had to suffer through a rough 101-60 loss at the hands of Onalaska. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss New Waverly has suffered yet this season.
Tarkington posted their closest win yet this season on Friday. They had just enough and edged Crockett out 54-52. The victory was all the more spectacular given Tarkington's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 815th, while Crockett is ranked 287th).
New Waverly's defeat dropped their record down to 10-14. As for Tarkington, their victory ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 17-10.
New Waverly didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Tarkington in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, but they still walked away with a 60-55 victory. Does New Waverly have another victory up their sleeve, or will Tarkington turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
