Basketball Recap: Andrew Seward's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Freeport over Guilford

Freeport's game on Wednesday was all tied up 31-31 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. The matchup between them and the Guilford Vikings didn't end well, with the Freeport Pretzels falling 70-52. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Pretzels this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 68-52 back in December of 2024.

Several Pretzels players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Andrew Seward, who posted 11 points. Deklyn Rustad was another key player, putting up nine points.

Branden Chatman continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Guilford, scoring 27 points. The game was Chatman's sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaden Webster, who put up 16 points.

Freeport's defeat dropped their record down to 11-14. As for Guilford, the win (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 20-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Freeport will challenge Rockford East at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. Rockford East is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60.5 points per game this season. Guilford has already played their next contest (against Boylan Catholic), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
