Softball Game Preview: Higley Knights vs. Mesquite Wildcats

The Higley Knights will square off against the Mesquite Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with four consecutive losses apiece.

Higley lost 11-5 to Mountain View on Saturday.

Higley saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Reese Elkins, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Mesquite came up short against Marcos de Niza on Monday and fell 7-3.

Olivia Romans made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-4.

Mesquite's defeat dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Higley, their loss dropped their record down to 6-16-1.

Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Higley hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .316. However, it's not like Mesquite struggles in that department as they've averaged .388. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Higley was able to grind out a solid victory over Mesquite when the teams last played back in April of 2021, winning 11-6. Will the Knights repeat their success, or do the Wildcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
