Basketball Recap: Edgewater Falls Despite Big Games from Adrianna Skraban and France Garilus

Edgewater and Horizon squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but Edgewater had to settle for second. They took a 72-60 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Horizon Hawks. The loss continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Hawks: they've now lost four in a row.

Edgewater's loss came despite strong showings from France Garilus and Adrianna Skraban. Garilus dropped a double-double with 20 points and ten rebounds, while Skraban posted 16 points and five boards. Garilus has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more rebounds the last nine times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kaliyah Simmons, who had nine points.

Horizon's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Bailey Travis, who dropped a double-double with 17 points and 14 boards. What's more, Travis also posted two blocks, the most she's had since back in January. Amaya Mitchell was another key player, going 8-for-20 en route to 16 points along with six rebounds and four steals.

Edgewater's defeat dropped their record down to 17-9. As for Horizon, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 19-8.

Edgewater does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Horizon, they will challenge Bloomingdale at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Bloomingdale knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 13 matches -- so hopefully Horizon likes a good challenge.
