Softball Recap: Lake Weir Comes Up Short

After flying high against North Marion last Wednesday, Lake Weir came back down to earth. Lake Weir fell just short of the Lake Minneola Hawks by a score of 9-8 on Friday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Hawks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-2 back in February.

Jenna Schmitt was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kyra Rigozzi, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Schmitt wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Lake Weir kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Lake Weir's defeat was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-9. As for Lake Minneola, their record is now 6-4.

Coming up, Lake Weir will take on Leesburg at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lake Weir's pitchers better be ready for this one: Leesburg has averaged an impressive 13.8 runs per game this season. As for Lake Minneola, they will face off against Pasco at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
