Softball Recap: Momence Takes a Loss

Momence had lost six straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 0-10 to make it seven. They came up short against the Beecher Bobcats, falling 14-1. If the Momence Athletics were looking for revenge after losing 15-0 to the Bobcats when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Momence saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sydnee Vanswol, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double. Payton Wigmore also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

As for Beecher, the win keeps they at an undefeated 14-0. The team's perfect season has a lot to do with their hitting performance: the team's won by an average of 9.6 runs thus far.

On Beecher's side, Ava Lorenzatti was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk). Lorenzatti has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, three RBI, and one run. Those two triples gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Makenzie Johnson was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one double. Ava Olson was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Beecher beat Momence by a score of 15-0 later that day.
