Russell waltzed into their contest on Friday with six straight wins... but they left with seven. They came out on top against the Ellis Railroaders by a score of 4-1. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Broncos also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2023.

Sam Thielen made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two RBI. He has become a key player for Russell: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 6-7 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Pierce Schoenberger, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jaxon Ross, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

Russell's win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-7. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. As for Ellis, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 9-6 record.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Russell beat the Railroaders by a score of 4-1 later that day.
