Softball Recap: Plainview Has No Trouble Against Palo Duro

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Lubbock-Cooper, Plainview was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Palo Duro Dons with a sharp 17-1 victory. That 16 run margin sets a new team best for the Bulldogs this season.

Yaneli Jaramillo made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in February of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.

In other batting news, Zaylee Hawkins was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and five RBI. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jakhai Gomez, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.

Plainview always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .645. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Plainview's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-11. As for Palo Duro, their defeat was their sixth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-10.

Coming up, Plainview will challenge Coronado at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. Plainview is facing Coronado at the right time seeing as Coronado is stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Palo Duro, they will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Caprock at 1:00 p.m. Caprock has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.64 runs per game on average), something Palo Duro will no doubt try to take advantage of.
