Baseball Game Preview: Central Red Devils vs. Auburn Tigers

Central is preparing for their first region matchup of the season on Wednesday. They will venture away from home to challenge the Auburn Tigers at 6:00 p.m. Central is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last five games.

Central proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by 11) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Normal Community 4-3.

Meanwhile, Auburn suffered their closest loss since February 15th on Saturday. They fell just short of St. Peter's Prep by a score of 5-3.

Wilson Foster made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was JB Upton, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one RBI.

Central pushed their record up to 21-8 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Auburn, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-11 record this season.

Central took their victory against Auburn when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 10-1. Will Central repeat their success, or does Auburn has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
