Baseball Game Preview: Woodland Wolverines vs. Cheraw Braves

The Woodland Wolverines will venture away from home to challenge the Cheraw Braves at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Woodland has given up an average of 9.7 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

East Clarendon hit Woodland with a five-run first inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. Woodland lost 11-1 to East Clarendon. That's two games in a row now that Woodland has lost by exactly ten runs.

Meanwhile, Cheraw fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against East Clarendon on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Wolverines by a score of 4-3. The Braves' defeat signaled the end of their 12-game winning streak.

Cheraw saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Terrence Blackmon, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double.

Cheraw's loss dropped their record down to 22-4. As for Woodland, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-14.

Woodland might still be hurting after the 6-0 defeat they got from Cheraw in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Wolverines avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
