Softball Recap: Albuquerque Academy Gets the Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Miyamura, Albuquerque Academy was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 15-13 victory over the Pojoaque Valley Elks/Elkettes. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Chargers have posted since March 9, 2024.

Melissa Purcella made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in April of 2024. She was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with five RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sydney Koranyi, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Addie Spratley, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

The victory got Albuquerque Academy back to even at 4-4. As for Pojoaque Valley, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-6.

Coming up, Albuquerque Academy will square off against Kirtland Central at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. Albuquerque Academy's pitchers better be ready for this one: Kirtland Central has averaged an impressive 6.7 runs per game this season. As for Pojoaque Valley, they will take on Miyamura at 6:10 p.m. on Friday.
