Basketball Recap: J'rell Williams' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Pueblo South over Pueblo Central

Pueblo South lost against Pueblo Central back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The match between the Pueblo South Colts and the Pueblo Central Wildcats didn't end well, with the Pueblo South Colts falling 87-70. The Colts were down 66-43 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Pueblo South lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was J'Rell Williams, who posted 21 points along with eight boards and five assists. Those eight rebounds gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Sergio Salazar, who scored 15 points in addition to seven boards and five assists.

Even though they lost, Pueblo South smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Leading Pueblo Central to victory were Ladamien Davis and Darrin Hemphill. Davis dropped a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds, while Hemphill had 21 points and six boards. Pueblo Central is 9-4 when Davis posts ten or more rebounds, but 2-3 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Darryll Davis, who earned 13 points along with five assists and three steals.

This is the second loss in a row for Pueblo South and nudges their season record down to 8-10. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.0 points over those games. As for Pueblo Central, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 11-7.

Pueblo South didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 69-39 defeat against Pueblo West on the 8th. As for Pueblo Central, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 65-43 win against Harrison on the 8th.
