Baseball Recap: North Attleborough Rocketeers vs. Mansfield Hornets
North Attleborough had lost three straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 9-6 to make it four. They came up short against the Mansfield Hornets, falling 8-0. Considering the last time the Rocketeers couldn't score was back in March, the team can't take the result too hard.
As for Mansfield, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games.
For Mansfield's part, Luke Rogan was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave Rogan a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.
In other batting news, Ethan Kucharski was excellent, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Mansfield's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 7-8 when he doesn't). Darrian Sanders also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Coming up, North Attleborough will head out to take on Foxborough at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. As for Mansfield, they will welcome Bishop Feehan at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Hornets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Shamrocks have averaged an impressive 6.7 runs per game this season.
