Preview: Coxsackie-Athens Riverhawks vs. Rensselaer Rams
Coxsackie-Athens and Rensselaer are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2015, but not for long. The Coxsackie-Athens Riverhawks will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Rensselaer Rams at 6:30 p.m. The timing is sure in Coxsackie-Athens' favor as the squad sits on five straight wins at home while Rensselaer has been banged up by eight consecutive losses on the road.
Even though Rensselaer scored an imposing 60 points on Monday, Coxsackie-Athens still came out on top. Coxsackie-Athens took their game against Rensselaer 68-60. Given Coxsackie-Athens' advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 116th, while Rensselaer is ranked 451st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Coxsackie-Athens' success was spearheaded by the efforts of Baileigh Briski, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds, and Riley Sitcer, who dropped a double-double on 32 points and 13 rebounds. Sitcer has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last four times she's played. Reaghan Hellen was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with two blocks.
Coxsackie-Athens' victory bumped their record up to 9-3. As for Rensselaer, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season.
