League recap: Meridian climbs in state rankings with win

Meridian moved up to 82 from 117 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 1A/2A/3A Northwest. The Trojans were able to make move up by besting Coupeville 34-6.

Lynden extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Sultan, 47-28. The victory was the ninth in a row for the Lions.

Sedro-Woolley's dynamic duo of Braden Blouin and Mason Elms proved tough for Lakewood to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Blouin threw for 68 yards and Elms had 59 yards receiving. Ethan Vanliew helped Sedro-Woolley's passing attack out by catching two balls for 36 yards.

Luke Christianson was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 154 yards on 11 carries as Lynden fell to the Cougars. Teammate Josh Kraght added to the ground attack by rushing for 65 yards.

Nooksack Valley's Tanner Myhre and Trey Handy have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 1A/2A/3A Northwest in both passing and receiving yards. Myhre has thrown for 1739 yards this season, while Handy, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has 54 catches for 677 yards. Christianson from Curt Kramme's team leads the league in rushing with 1093 yards.

Ferndale and Hazen played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Ferndale eventually emerging with a 22-16 victory.
