Softball Game Preview: River Islands Riptide vs. Millennium Falcons

River Islands is preparing for their first league matchup of the season on Thursday. They will head out on the road to face off against the Millennium Falcons at 4:00 p.m.

River Islands came up short against Delta Charter on Friday, falling 12-6.

Meanwhile, Millennium put another one in the bag on Monday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Aspire Langston Hughes Academy 14-1. Fans of the Falcons have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.

Hayden Faaborg made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 6.2 strikeouts per game. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Faaborg is crushing it when it comes to hits: she's got at least three every time she's taken the field this season.

In other batting news, Lanie Gonzalez was a standout: she fired off two home runs and three RBI while going 3-for-4. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Nora Coutts, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Millennium's victory was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-0. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average this season. As for River Islands, they now have a losing record of 1-2.
