International Falls is 2-8 against Rock Ridge co-op [Eveleth-Gilbert/Virginia] since April of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Broncos are taking a road trip to face off against the Wolverines at 4:30 p.m.
On Friday, International Falls didn't have quite enough to beat Chisholm and fell 7-6. The Broncos have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Hayden Swenson put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out 13 batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off three hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in April. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Kaden Korpi was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple was his first of the season. Caleb Joslyn was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
Meanwhile, Rock Ridge co-op [Eveleth-Gilbert/Virginia] posted their closest win since May 28, 2024 on Monday. They had just enough and edged out South Ridge 6-5.
Aiden Bird and Jacob Coombe did most of the damage at the plate: Bird went 1-for-3 with one home run, while Coombe went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Caz Carlson, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases.
Rock Ridge co-op [Eveleth-Gilbert/Virginia] is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for International Falls, their loss dropped their record down to 4-8.
International Falls came up short against Rock Ridge co-op [Eveleth-Gilbert/Virginia] in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, falling 9-6. Can the Broncos avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
