Softball Game Preview: Nansemond River Warriors vs. Currituck County Knights

The Nansemond River Warriors will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the Currituck County Knights at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Last Tuesday, Nansemond River got the win against Churchland by a conclusive 20-6. The Warriors haven't had any issues with the Truckers recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Logan Greenwood made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Greenwood was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Nansemond River got a massive performance out of Demetria Burton, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with three stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs. Ashlyn Cosby was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

Nansemond River kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Churchland only managed five hits.

Meanwhile, Currituck County had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Manteo 10-9.

The team relied heavily on Amelia Cervantes, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Isabella Bartolotta, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Currituck County now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Nansemond River, the win got them back to even at 1-1.

Nansemond River beat Currituck County 9-5 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will Nansemond River repeat their success, or does Currituck County has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
