Basketball Recap: Mercer Island Starts off Right with Win over Franklin Pierce

Mercer Island had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They took their matchup on Friday with ease, bagging a 67-7 victory over the Franklin Pierce Cardinals.

Mercer Island's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Izzy Russell, who shot 50% from the field on her way to 13 points and six steals. Those six steals gave Russell a new career-high. Olivia Simpson was another key player, putting up ten points in addition to eight boards and eight steals.

Mercer Island has already played their next contest, a 57-49 victory against Neah Bay on the 29th. As for Franklin Pierce, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 37-24 defeat against Jefferson on the 29th.
