Baseball Recap: Slinger Takes a Loss

Slinger fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Homestead on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Highlanders by a score of 4-3. The Owls were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Highlanders apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2025.

Andon Schroeder was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Grady Chvosta was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI. Gavin Sawyer was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one triple and one RBI.

Slinger's defeat dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Homestead, the win got them back to even at 3-3.

Looking ahead, Slinger will venture away from home to challenge Wisconsin Lutheran at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday. As for Homestead, they will welcome Grafton at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Highlanders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Black Hawks have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season.
