Softball Recap: Saugus Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

While Saugus's victory against West Ranch wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Saugus Centurions had just enough and edged out the West Ranch Wildcats 7-6. The win was familiar territory for the Centurions, who have now won three games in a row.

Taliya Mata looked comfortable as she pitched four innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Amelia Johnson and Savanna Smith did most of the damage at the plate: Johnson scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4, while Smith scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 3-for-4. That's the most runs Johnson has posted since back in April of 2024. Jordan Shepherd was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.

Saugus kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 14 hits in three consecutive contests.

Saugus' victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for West Ranch, they moved to 4-6 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Coincidentally, Saugus and West Ranch will both be playing Thousand Oaks the next time they take the field. Saugus will head out to face Thousand Oaks at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, while West Ranch will play them later in the day, at 11:00 a.m.
