Basketball Recap: Wheat Ridge Comes Up Short

Wheat Ridge was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their 18th straight loss. They took a blow against the Conifer Lobos, falling 60-33. The Farmers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Lobos apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Several Farmers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Sophia Burnham, who posted 12 points. The dominant performance gave Burnham a new career-high in points. Sky Copeland was another key player, putting up eight points and eight rebounds.

Even though they lost, Wheat Ridge smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive board total in three consecutive contests.

Conifer's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sydney Pierce, who had two points along with 11 boards and three steals. Those steals marked the first that Pierce's grabbed this season.

Wheat Ridge's loss dropped their record down to 1-18. As for Conifer, their victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 11-6.

Wheat Ridge wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 58-20 defeat against Golden on the 7th. As for Conifer, they have also already played their next game, a 57-23 loss against Standley Lake on the 7th.
