Basketball Recap: Cherokee Bluff Takes a Loss

Cherokee Bluff suffered their closest defeat since December 21, 2024 on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Oconee County Warriors by a score of 49-46. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bears this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 57-51 back in January.

It was another big night for Julie Azeltine, who posted 22 points and six rebounds for Oconee County. That makes it three consecutive games in which Azeltine has scored at least a third of Oconee County's points. Another player making a difference was Lydia Gay, who put up six points in addition to seven boards and four steals.

With the loss, Cherokee Bluff broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 17-7. As for Oconee County, their win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-6.

Cherokee Bluff will face off against Jefferson at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Jefferson will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Cherokee Bluff surely won't give up without a fight. As for Oconee County, they will head out to square off against Monroe Area at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Monroe Area has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
