Soccer Game Preview: Grassfield vs. Nansemond River

The Grassfield Grizzlies are taking a road trip to square off against the Nansemond River Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Grassfield will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.

Grassfield had to skate by with only a one-goal margin when they last took the pitch, which might have inspired the eight-goal drubbing they dealt Indian River on Tuesday. The Grizzlies blew past the Braves 8-0. Give Grassfield's defense some credit: that's the team's third straight shutout.

Their offense was hitting Indian River from everywhere, as eight different players booted in a goal.

Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Nansemond River's offense. They came up short against Great Bridge on Tuesday, falling 4-0. The defeat continues a trend for Nansemond River in their meetings with Great Bridge: they've now lost eight in a row.

Grassfield's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-2-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up zero goals over those three matchups. As for Nansemond River, their loss dropped their record down to 3-2-1.

Grassfield beat Nansemond River by a goal when the teams last played back in April of 2024, winning 1-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Grizzlies since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
