Softball Recap: Monday's Victory Is St. Bernard's Fourth in Last Five Outings

While St. Bernard put up some runs on Monday, the same can't be said for Wheeler. The Saints didn't even let the Lions on the board, marking the Saints' second-straight 7-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Saints, who have now won four matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

The result came thanks to Anabelle Wenzel's shutout, as she gave up just two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Olivia Kane, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Helena Coury, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

St. Bernard is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Wheeler, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-4.

Coming up, St. Bernard will face off against Ledyard at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Saints' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Colonels have averaged an impressive 13.3 runs per game this season.
