The Whitmore Lake Trojans will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Greenhills Gryphons at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
Things were looking good for Whitmore Lake after they put the first runs on the board on Saturday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Morenci by a score of 9-8.
Whitmore Lake got a good showing from Chase Abla, who didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched.
At the plate, Curtis Bower made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole four bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Devon Cervantes, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Greenhills made easy work of Cabrini on Saturday and carried off a 13-1 victory. The Gryphons have beaten the Monarchs the last six times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Monarchs has come to flipping the script.
Jeremiah Bowman made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in May of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Talen Pilz was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Kade Mason, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4.
Greenhills kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cabrini didn't got any hits.
Greenhills pushed their record up to 6-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Whitmore Lake, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.
Whitmore Lake skirted past Greenhills 2-1 in their previous matchup back in April of 2023. Do the Trojans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Gryphons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
