SMITHS, Ala. - Smiths Station (Smiths, Ala.) had its advantage, which at one point stood at 14 points, drop to seven before the final whistle blew on a 27-20 victory over Valley (Ala.).

The Panthers were up 20-13 at the half after taking the lead on a rushing touchdown in the first quarter.

Smiths Station expanded its lead to 14 points entering the fourth quarter. SS's lone score in the quarter came on a rushing touchdown.

Preston Reynolds stood out for the Smiths school in the win. The senior ran for one touchdown. He has now scored four touchdowns on the season.



Last season's game between the teams resulted in a 26-23 win for the Panthers.

The victory was a step in the right direction for Smiths Station, which was coming off a 28-22 defeat at the hands of Central in its previous game. The loss comes after Valley defeated Marbury 27-7 last week. The loss snapped the Rams' 3-game winning streak.
