Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask East St. Louis). The stars were shining brightly for them in a 54-37 victory over the Belleville West Maroons on Thursday. The win was some much needed relief for the Flyers as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.

East St. Louis' victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 3-7. As for Belleville West, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 3-7.

East St. Louis and Belleville West could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. East St. Louis (ranked 364th) will meet Edwardsville (ranked 35th) at 7:30 p.m. on January 7, 2025. Similarly, Belleville West will square off against Mater Dei at 10:30 a.m. on December 27th down 375 places (415 vs. 40).
