Basketball Recap: Briar Woods Takes a Loss

Briar Woods was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were a single point away from ending the streak, but they lost a 47-46 heartbreaker at the hands of the Jefferson Cougars. While losing is never fun, the Falcons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 204th in Virginia, while the Cougars are ranked 28th in West Virginia).

Devon Pettibone and Josh Winklosky certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Pettibone posted 11 points, while Winklosky scored six points and five boards. Patrick Fraim was another key player, putting up four points along with eight rebounds and three steals.

Even though they lost, Briar Woods smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in three consecutive matchups.

Briar Woods' defeat dropped their record down to 6-12. As for Jefferson, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season.
