Baseball Recap: South Comes Up Short

South's last matchup with Exeter could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's game on Monday. The Spartans came up short against the Monarchs, falling 14-6. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Spartans of the 2-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2024.

Josh Encinas made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while going 1-for-2. Jose Encinas was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

South's defeat dropped their record down to 11-7. As for Exeter, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-5.

Coming up, South will take on West at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Vikings have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.82 runs per game on average), something the Spartans will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Exeter, they will be taking part in a tournament against Caruthers at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
