Recap: Cross Stingrays vs. Hilton Head Prep Dolphins
The Cross Stingrays waltzed into their contest on Thursday with eight straight wins but they left with nine. They took down Hilton Head Prep 57-42. That's another feather in the cap for Cross, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Cross' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Lexann Maldonado led the charge by scoring 12 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Maldonado continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Ryan Mayers was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 11 points and 13 rebounds.
Despite the loss, Hilton Head Prep still got an impressive performance from Courtney Campbell, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds. Campbell is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Brooke Heins, who scored 13 points.
Cross has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 22-4 record this season. As for Hilton Head Prep, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-13.
Cross will be playing at home against Coastal HomeSchool at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Coastal HomeSchool will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in their respective state's rankings (they are ranked 439th in Georgia, while Cross is ranked 90th in South Carolina). As for Hilton Head Prep, they will head out on the road to challenge First Baptist School at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hilton Head Prep is coming into the matchup with four straight defeats on the road, meaning First Baptist School will have to defend against a team hungry for a win.
